“I’m totally confused!”
Dr. Teri Quinn Gray is freaking out at the State Board of Education meeting right now about the Christina School District getting a 2nd year of planning for their priority schools. Penny Schwinn explained to Dr. Gray how, because of the WEAC recommendations, a deal was basically cut with Christina to get additional time to plan. Dr. Gray said WEIC just left and basically said they aren’t able to distribute education recommendations. As Penny tried to explain this to Dr. Gray, she became more flustered.
“So this is a five year plan, until 2019. Am I the only one hyperventilating here? Excuse me. I have to step out.”
And she did, looking like she hasn’t read anything about this in THE PAST 10 MONTHS!!!!
Penny is going over the options if Christina doesn’t get their plans in on time. Here we go… and the war begins anew. I hope everyone in Christina is reading this!
Melendez and Heffernan are talking about how Christina plays games. “They did it with the Race To The Top money,” said Melendez. “They’re getting hurt.”
Secretary Godowsky is talking about interventions Christina is implementing in the district. He brought up the DASL reports! He is reiterating the deal Christina made. He is actually calming the conversation down…
Gray came back. She asked Penny when their plans are due. Penny said December 4th. It is up to the Secretary’s discretion for any punitive action if it doesn’t happen. Donna Johnson is saying the educators are great but she is laying the blame on the district and the board. This got REAL tense.
Dr. Gray is visibly livid about this. She wants follow-up on this…
The Season Of Myths 
Is this a current 2015 post? I ask because we have heard nothing in Christina from DOE about Priority School plans etc since way back last spring. The WEAC/WEIC plans basically address the priority schools issue — the very schools.

If I had to guess, the State Board may not pass the redistricting plan and they are looking at the priority schools and going “we lost a year, let’s get ’em!”

Third. Tell here that time lines are arbitrary. One can come in under or over them. They aren’t rules……… just guidelines……..

DOE cut no “deal” last year with Christina. When the WEAC report came out DOE essentially dropped any concerns about CSD and our “priority schools.” They recognized that the schools in question in WEAC and WEIC were in fact the same priority schools plus two. We never saw or heard from them again. Nope, nada, not a word. But if they want to come now as John says, bring.it.on.

The part about “the deal” was my words. I will most likely be committing hari kari tomorrow and will transcribe that part of the meeting from their audio. It happened VERY fast and between the dropped jaws in the room, myself going “What the..” in my head and actually muttering it on my lips, and DOE employees all around me looking like “Oh man, here we go again”, it was pretty chaotic in there!

Terri Quinn Gray and Donna Johnson both should be removed from office. They are out of control and believe they have some authority they do not.

As BOE President of CSD I would be interested in knowing just exactly where Schwinn gets the Dec. 4 date for plans being due, and any tracking of conversations pursuant to Priority Schools with CSD this school year, or actually back as far as probably last March. When we notified them that we were not submitting plans we did not hear from them anymore. When I say they “dropped concerns…. etc” those are my thoughts because we just didn’t hear from Schwinn & Co. ever again! Strange, I know. When the WEAC/WEIC plans came into being it appeared to me, at least, that this was another go around about these same schools. However, there was much more structure, much more collaboration around the WEIC planning. With the priority schools the option that was always dangling in front of us was that DOE/”the state” would grab the schools if we didn’t do what they wanted. But they didn’t. There was never talk of any other district taking on the schools, much less Red Clay because they were saddled with the same problem. What a goofy mess….and obviously somebody in Dover doesn’t do any homework whatsoever….none.

Christina School District News Wow! I thought we were in the middle of a media blackout! Since we are talking about Christina School District;
1. Where are things going on the superintend search?
2. What will the next budget look like?
3. What referendum requests are being forecasted?( Last year the plan was shared in the paper on Dec 13th)

Super search discussions to begin at Jan. 12 BOE meeting; final budget presentation will be at January meeting; referendum has been on Board discussion every month since October. Details will be discussed also at Jan. 12 meeting.
