Kim Williams Calls Out Earl Jaques For The Consummate Liar He Is

DE State Rep. Earl Jaques

In an article on Delaware Public Media concerning the status of the charter school audit bills, State Rep. Earl Jaques spun a web of lies about State Rep. Kim Williams, the sponsor of the bill.  He gave a quote to reporter Sarah Mueller stating Rep. Williams never approached him about the bill.  But Williams didn’t take it lying down.  Nor should she.

Williams’ bill stalled in the Education Committee. Committee chair Earl Jaques (D-Newark) said he didn’t put in on its agenda because Williams didn’t discuss it with him.

“I asked for her to come talk to me about it,” he said. “I wanted to find out what the issue were, like I do with almost any bill, every bill and she never came and talked to me about it.”

Williams took to Facebook this morning to call Earl out on his boldfaced lie.  I’ve seen Earl in action and this fits with his consistent pattern of lying through his teeth.  I try to give him the benefit of the doubt many times but he has consistently proven he simply cannot be trusted.

I normally would not do this but since Rep. Jaques went on record about me and lied, I am going to respond.

Rep. Jaques is lying in this article, I went to him about the audit bills, the staff went to him about the audit bills, we had discussions in caucus about the audit bills, to say I did not speak to him about these bills is an outright LIE! He spoke to DOE about these bills and met with Auditor Mcguiness about these bills. I, Sen. Walsh and Rep. Longhurst had a conference call with Auditor Mcguiness about the audit bill.

Rep. Jaques filed a bill removing my constituents ability to vote in a school referendum which would raise my constituents taxes but he will not move forward with a bill that protects their tax dollars.

Rep. Jaques went on record that the two audit bills are going nowhere. The Department of Education supported the bills, the State Board of Education voted in support of the audit bill, the Public Integrity Commission issued a 12-page opinion about the charter school, the charter school was put on formal review, the Senate Education members supported the audit bill except for Sen. Ernie Lopez who did not think the bill was necessary, the majority of the Senate body voted in support of the Senate audit bill.

Why would you go on record and lie and think I would not have something to say about it?

The reason the audit bills did not go anywhere is because Rep. Jaques held the bills up. The Senate audit bill could have passed the House on June 30th. Rep. Jaques walked a few Senate education bills for signatures but did not walk the Senate audit bill.

The prime sponsor in the Delaware Senate, Jack Walsh, weighed in on Williams’ post as well:

We worked hard to get this through the Senate and to not even have it heard on the House floor is disgraceful especially when misuse of taxpayer’s money was reported. Not to mention the fact that there was no fiscal note when the bill was in the Senate but suddenly one appeared when it went over to the House. Representative Williams and I represent our constituents and there was overwhelming support by the people for this legislation.

It appears Earl is now lying in media quotes along with whatever lies he tells in his own Caucus.  And Speaker of the House Pete Schwartzkopf has a lot of explaining to do with his reasoning for getting a fiscal note put on a bill that didn’t call for it.  We all know this was dirty politics to stall a bill he didn’t want because it would piss off his bestie, State Auditor Kathy McGuiness.  Along with the precedent it would set for charter schools that would get audited more easily which would tick off his other friend in the charter world, Kendall Massett.  Maybe it’s just the initials K.M. that get special favors in Legislative Hall.

In the article, Jaques publicly announced nothing would happen with the bills.  No reason or sound explanation was given for his announcement.  Which just goes to show what a control freak he is about charter school audits.

Walsh’s bill now sits in the House Education Committee with Williams’ legislation. The chances of either advancing next year is uncertain. Jacques said “neither one’s going anywhere.”

These kind of games are what makes people not trust our legislators.  They are power plays, designed to demean what is right and just and put a shroud over transparency.

The games Earl Jaques plays are legendary.  The only reason he is the Chair of the House Education Committee is because he follows the orders from the Executive Office and Speaker of the House Pete Schwartzkopf.  He has no true mind of his own and he has lied numerous times.  He has done it to my own face and I have heard many stories of his lies to others.  He attempted it with me a few years ago in trying to get me to shut up about opt out by telling me he wanted to get a bill allowing parents of special needs kids to be able to opt out.  If he truly wanted that he would have made it happen.  He is a liar and he needs to be voted out of office.  But he had such a hissy fit about his referendum bill not passing that he is calling in members of the House Education Committee for special meetings to discuss education funding over the summer.  This is all complete and utter bullshit but it will never change until Pete AND Earl are removed from office.  And the only way that is ever going to happen is if some very strong contenders step up to the plate and crush them in an election.  Let’s make it happen!

Eric Morrison, a Democrat in Earl’s district, has already announced he is running against him in 2020 and has been getting the word out about his election.

  1. Rep. Kim Williams account is completely and factually accurate and the verbal abusive and berating attacks she endured in caucus from Rep. Jaques and Speaker Schwartzkopf were cruel and abusive bullying at its worst. I’ve written about this particular incident before and not only is Rep. Williams due a public apology from these two Representatives but I again call on them to consider leaving their respective leadership positions. The lack of civility and cultivation of an unfettered sexist attitude of some caucus members should be rejected and the course corrected. Rep. Kowalko

  2. Earl lies. Straight to your face lies. If it’s raining outside he’ll tell you the sky is blue. Ask him to legislate an over ride or change in school board elections to save tax payers $30000 and he lies. Lies lies lies. I knew a K.M. Once. She was a hooker.
