Feminist Club At Newark Charter Schools Denies Access To Those With A Y Chromosome

Newark Charter School

feminism

Breaking News!  Today, at Newark Charter School, some female students began a feminist club.  That seems to be all the rage these days.  But something happened they didn’t quite expect.  When male students wanted to join, they were told they can’t be a part of it.  Why?  If I had to guess, it’s the whole guy-girl thing.

In today’s world of both gender bathrooms, inclusion must not be a lesson learned among some NCS students.  To be crystal clear on this, this feminist club was not brought forth or endorsed by Newark Charter School.  It was created by students, for students.  Well, female students as it turns out.  One parent is actually not happy about their son being barred entrance from this elite club.  We have come a long way since the He-Man Woman Hater’s Club on the Little Rascals.  I would love to know what inspired these female students to start a feminist club.

Will we start to see parents of male students leaving NCS?  Will the DOE or the State of Delaware intervene?  Can we expect to see another student sit-in?  Stay tuned.

*This is not a joke post.  This really happened.

  1. would go thru the effort of correcting this but the partisan dogma at work behind this lovely piece of carelessly inaccurate reporting seems trivially obvious

  2. Men can definitely be feminists and male students should absolutely be allowed to join this club if they are truly interested. Criticizing the club for not being inclusive is a valid stance to take.

However, your other not-so-thinly veiled criticisms of the ideas behind the club, not so much. Just because we have, “Come a long way since the He-Man Woman Hater’s Club on the Little Rascals” doesn’t mean the need for feminism is gone. Just to name a few things going on right now….our president elect has bragged about sexually assaulting women (which was never really apologized for and was dismissed as “locker room talk”), he has also repeatedly mocked women for their looks (flat chested women can’t be a 10, etc.), there are also reports of him walking through women’s changing rooms at his beauty pageants…well we could go on forever about Trump, but additionally, Planned Parenthood is (again) at risk of being defunded, the incoming vice president voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act several times while a congressman, an NYPD captain said he wasn’t “too worried” about an increase in rape because only a few were “true stranger” rapes and those were the “Troubling” ones, as opposed to a rape that occurs by someone the woman met on Tinder or a coworker….the list goes on.

To say the club should let in male students is correct. If anything, women need men who understand what they are going through and support their cause more than ever right now. But to dismiss this club as just something that is “all the rage these days” is really dismissive of a lot of real and valid concerns that women all over the country have. Don’t let your negative feelings toward Newark Charter blind you to the many things going on that require feminism right now.
