My Email To Glasgow High School Principal Butch Ingram, Richard Gregg, & Christina’s Board of Education

I expected there to be some fireworks over at Glasgow High School today.  There were.  District officials came rushing over at 8am and met with Principal Harold “Butch” Ingram.  Ingram then held a staff meeting to let folks know what was going on.  Cue some Spin Doctors music here readers!  I sent an email to Butch to let him know he is more than welcome to come on here and let the fine people of Delaware know what happened.  I sent this to Ingram, Superintendent Richard Gregg, and the entire Christina Board of Education minutes ago.

Good afternoon Mr. Ingram,
I am the writer for Exceptional Delaware and I posted the article about your high school yesterday.
I understand you held a staff meeting today and told staff members that I don’t know what I’m talking about and how wrong I was.  We both know what went down at your school, under your supervision.  I know much more than what I wrote.  The truth will get out eventually.  The bottom line is this: you know there were massive screw-ups with IEPs and it wasn’t revealed publicly until I did so.  I know the district office is rushing to put out this latest fire.  I have no doubt there is a witch hunt to find out how I found out all this.  Which is puzzling.  If what I wrote was so wrong, why the massive hunt for my sources?
My suggestion is this: focus on cleaning up your own house and what caused this mess to begin with before anything else.  I invite you to comment on the eventual blog post this email will become and explain to the public exactly what did happen.  I invite you to tell the people of Delaware the school did NOT lose any funding over this because if the IEPs were not updated those students still get general education funding.  I also dare you to say none of those students should have IEPs.  If those students with the fake IEPs were NOT special education how much funding was the school projected to get and were there any hiring decisions based on those numbers?  How many teachers have or will lose their jobs because of this lack of funding that was most likely planned for ahead of time?  I completely understand you will have to check with the district office before you can say anything.  That’s cool.  I would expect that. 
In the spirit of full transparency (cause, ya know, someone has to do that in this state), I will be publishing this email on Exceptional Delaware.  You can fool some of the people some of the time but you can’t fool me!

  1. They aren’t the only ones. For all the faults that’s been stated here about DTA (most of which were not correct). One thing DTA did right was 504 & IEPs.

    I cannot say the same is true at William Penn..my childs unfortunate feeder which only reminds me of the corruption within the Colonial School . Why my child went to a charter school in the first place. First marking period I’d ending & I now find out they do not have any records of 504 & IEPs from DTA. If this would have been mentioned, I would have brought proof as I keep records myself. My child isn’t the only one & Penn doesn’t care.

    Even their discipline is terrible, student get a lunch detention instead of a real in school suspension. They claim three is a 3 strike rule… how many in school lunch suspensions count toward a real one & that 3 strike rule. The classes are unruly & they have classes with both Honors students and College Ready (which mean general students). No joke. 1 teacher 30 students; 7 are honors the rest just normal kids who are rude, disruptive, disrespectful & teachers who casually point out students walking away from school obviously cutting school & no one does anything. Not to mention they force Imagine Math placement test which is headed & for students to do a certain amount of lesson which are once again counted as a grade. This wouldn’t be so horrible if it tied into what was being taught but it doesn’t, not even close. Then they argue it’s not a placement/benchmark test & the district never sees those numbers… & I’m expected to believe them. Why do teacher’s need benchmark/placement exams? They teach these kids; give lessons, homework & tests. They are given grades based on their performance. Yet teacher’s need benchmark/placement testing to see where kids stand???

    Back to what this stared with which is the fact I’m fighting for a 504 to be put into place & I get blown off for weeks.

    Colonial school district is a school who teaches to the tests, repeatedly. It’s everything that is wrong with the school system. Students at William Penn don’t we have freedom to leave the lunchroom at will. They have to wait for 1 of the 4 passes (2 for each) & if 1 is gone a while, no one checks because no one cares. There is no going outside to eat or for seniors leaving to get lunch & come back. Those students are in for a huge reality check in college because they are given no freedom.

    Colonial school district got in trouble a few years ago for not treating IEP & 504s correctly. As far as I see in William Penn, not one thing has changed.

  2. Hello, let me start of with how much I love this. I just started in this process ,my son is only 3 and a half diagnosed asd . I was questioning everything your mentioning but in regards to early care . Please email me for discussion .
