Democrats Seething As Tom Wagner Appoints James Spadola As His Deputy, And I Don’t Blame Them One Bit!

Delaware Election 2018

James Spadola, you should have said no.  Today, Delaware State Auditor Tom Wagner appointed James Spadola, who is the Republican candidate for State Auditor, to be his Deputy in the Auditor of Accounts Office.  Spadola faces Democrat candidate Kathy McGuiness in the November 6th election.

I wanted to like Spadola.  I truly did.  But this move… it is completely political.  There is nothing Spadola can truly learn in that office in the next few weeks that qualifies him to be the best candidate for State Auditor.  If anything, this will most likely cement a Kathy McGuiness victory.

The News Journal covered this earlier today.

“Yeah, I’m running to be No. 1 and help the office and serve Delaware,” he said. “But I’m being given the opportunity to be the No. 2 and have that impact with the right intentions and for the right reasons. I can’t turn that down.”

Yes, James, you could have turned it down.  You turned yourself into a political opportunist with this very stupid move.

What Spadola also did was give Democrats a reason to rally behind Kathy McGuiness:

Democrats said they are sympathetic to Wagner’s condition and have him in their thoughts and prayers, but called the decision an “audacious” move that “just smacks of a political stunt.”

“Delaware voters are smart and they will clearly see through my opponent’s efforts to inject partisanship into the Auditor’s Office at the taxpayers’ expense,” McGuiness said in a statement.

Jesse Chadderdon, Executive Director of the democratic party in Delaware, said: “James has talked about the importance of having independence in this office, and this shows he has none of it.”

This State Auditor race has been bizarre from the very beginning.  If Primary voters had just done the right thing with Kathleen Davies, we wouldn’t see the horror show unfolding before our very eyes.  I expected more out of Spadola, but this is Delaware politics at its very worst.  Wagner is most likely medically incompetent and unable to make rational decisions that are the best for Delaware.

Kathleen Davies didn’t make this office go haywire Tom Wagner, it was you.  And you are proving it all over again.  The office didn’t have a lack of managers when Davies left.  That happened on your watch!  I feel bad for you with your health issues but you probably should have resigned a long time ago.  For someone who says he wants the office to stay Republican, you sure have a funny way of showing it!

McGuiness has been somewhat quiet since the Primary.  Or maybe I just haven’t been paying as much attention since Davies lost.  Either way, I fear for Delawareans.  The Democrats in this state blew it by not electing Davies.  She was the only qualified candidate for the office.  Now, either way, we can expect more of the same.  Who knows, maybe one of them will surprise me in the end, but I highly doubt it.

The News Journal’s unethical tampering with this election, aided by the same folks who left Wagner’s office very recently, didn’t resist including all the shameful stuff they wrote about Kathleen Davies at the end of their article.  This state has become very ugly in the past year.

  1. Commentary from the Peanut Gallery:

“James Spadola, you should have said no.”
Agreed. He must have an incompetent political advisor.

“But this move… it is completely political”

I disagree with your premise of “the right thing” and with your ass-umption that a vote for Ms Davies was a “right” thing. Davies is, and was, the worst kind of political hack.

“Wagner is most likely medically incompetent and unable to make rational decisions …”
What? His maladies are physical, not mental nor psychological. You are not a credible critic here. ……..

“Kathleen Davies didn’t make this office go haywire Tom Wagner, it was you.”
No .. it actually was Kathleen Davies, the self-appointed mail-censoring signature-faking tyrant.

    “I fear for Delawareans.”
A little melodramatic, aren’t you? Voters DQ-ed Davies which was actually the right thing to do.

“The Democrats in this state blew it by not electing Davies.”
    No. They got it right.

“She was the only qualified candidate for the office.”
Wow ….. No, no, no ……. and no. Did you actually try to do any objective homework on this?

“Who knows, maybe one of them will surprise me in the end, but I highly doubt it.”
Your ‘surprise’ is not notable. Your bias is.

Well, I guess bloggers really do envy the MSM.

“This state has become very ugly in the past year.”
    Nope, just your little blogosphere.

    1. Sounds like you believe everything you read in the News Journal. Faulty thing but many Delawareans do that. Can’t blame you for following the crowd. I guess when it comes to homework you need the right material. You obviously don’t have that. Welcome back! Missed you buddy!
