Delaware PTA Takes On Iconic Children’s Store In Competition For Parental Time

In a bid to get parental attendance at PTA meetings, the Delaware PTA came out with a meme today on Facebook.  That’s right, they are going after Build-A-Bear stores.

There are some flaws with their plea for attention.  One parent, named Yvonne Hodges, gave a statement on this developing story:

I bring my daughter to Build-A-Bear workshops on the weekend.  What parent has the time to bring their child to the mall on a school night and wait around for their bear to be built?  I spend my time at PTA meetings during the week!

Not to be outdone, Terri Johnson said:

My son was going to create his own stuffed animal with a Delaware PTA shirt on it.  But after he saw that meme he thought the PTA was against Build-A-Bear.  He will be okay after a few months of therapy.  Kids are resilient like that.

A parent by the name of Mary Paige thought the PTA could go after parental engagement in other ways:

I am urging all parents to opt out of this opt out of Build-A-Bear in lieu of Delaware PTA meetings.

The Delaware PTA was not allowed to respond to the last comment because they are forbidden to use the words “opt” and “out” in the same sentence.

Who will win in the parental engagement competition?  The PTA or the loveable, cuddleable, and squeezable heart of joy of elementary school children everywhere?

Elizabeth Pieri said:

After a hard day of Common Core all day in school and test prep 15 months out of the year, all my daughter wants to do is come home and play with her Build-A-Bear named Snuffaluffathesallamongataspiderman.

Let the children play!  Here’s an idea, how about the Delaware PTA partners up with Build-A-Bear and holds meetings right outside of a store?
