Congratulations To The Delaware Class Of 2018! You Are The Last Class To…

Delaware high school seniors are having or had their high school graduations.  Congrats to all of you!  I hope you all have bright futures ahead of you.  This class also has something very significant that the next generation of high school graduates won’t be able to say.

The Class of 2018 is the last graduating class that did not have to take the Smarter Balanced Assessment.  You were spared!  The test came out in the Spring of 2015 for students in 3rd grade to 8th grade.  The high school juniors in 2015 had to take the state assessment but after that it was eliminated in favor of the SAT.  Unless you skipped a grade, you did not have to take this abominable horror.

All future graduating classes in Delaware will have taken the Smarter Balanced Assessment up until at least the class of 2027 if the test were eradicated today.  Unless they were opted out!  They are the lucky ones!  Sadly, you all were victim to the Common Core state standards.  None of you can escape that.

But good luck in your future endeavors and remember- you are the key to the future!

I am a proud parent of a son with Tourette's Syndrome and several other co-morbidities. I write on this blog to educate other parents so they know a bit more about not only special education, but all the really bad things that are happening with public schools in Delaware and the USA. We are all in this together, and if our children aren't able to advocate for themselves it's up to us parents! We need to stop letting companies run our schools, and demand our children get a proper education. Our Departments of Education in our states have become weak with fear from the bullying US DOE, and we need to take back our schools!
