Who Protects Kids When Teacher Unions Won’t? The DSEA and NEA Response To Shocking Video Is Horrendous!

Project Veritas released a video on May 2nd about a teacher union president that clearly shows him admitting the union will lie and manipulate to protect a teacher in a student abuse situation.  The responses from the union president are shocking.  Even more shocking are the responses from the Delaware State Education Association and the National Education Association to help members deal with this video. I am putting the video up which you can see below.

I don’t care if anyone in the teacher’s union was my best friend.  If I EVER heard of something going on like this I would expose it in a heartbeat.  Eventually, David Perry was suspended from his teaching job with the Hamilton Township school district and resigned as President of the local education association.

In New Jersey, like Delaware, it is a one-party consent to record.  This is a tremendous blow to teacher unions across the country and it comes on the heels of a huge United States Supreme Court case regarding union membership fees.  It is expected the Supreme Court will rule in the plaintiff’s favor which could cause a ripple effect resulting in dwindling union membership.  I can’t speak for the motivation of Project Veritas on the timing of the video, but I will say it needed to come out.

Is Perry just a rogue teacher’s union president gone bad?  Could this happen in Delaware?  Apparently this spooked the Delaware State Education Association.  So much so that DSEA President Mike Matthews sent an email to members local education association presidents yesterday.

At last night’s meeting, we discussed Project Veritas and how they are infiltrating local unions around the country. The latest example is in New Jersey. Please see below an email from NEA and a follow-up from DSEA Exec Dir Jeff Taschner.

This is not for widespread consumption. We do not want to give Project Veritas the attention they seem to think they deserve. As Jeff says below, please try and refrain from Googling “Project Veritas” and don’t view their videos on YouTube. We don’t want to give them hits. If you’d like to see one of their videos in question, click the link in the email below.

NEA believes that Veritas is coming out more now because of the job actions we are witnessing across the country. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Please see the below information from NEA. You can use the safe link to see the video released yesterday, they believe another from Michigan may be coming tomorrow. As noted in the highlighted text, do not google Veritas or watch any video on their site, we don’t not want to give them any appearance that they are getting attention to their activity. There is no doubt that their increased activity is related to the educator walk outs taking place in WV, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Arizona and Colorado shedding light on the defunding of public education and difficult conditions faced by educators as well as the impending Janus decision. This is very, very real. No one should speak to someone unless they know the person. If someone calls soliciting advice for themselves, a family member or friend, you should get their contact information and forward it to the appropriate UD with a copy to Patti and me, We will then determine how to move forward, most likely by contacting them and scheduling an in person appointment after we verify membership and take other precautionary steps. NEA will be forwarding guidance with the next day or two, we will get it to everyone ASAP. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. Thanks, Jeff

On behalf of John Stocks:

We just learned that PV released a video today about David Perry, president of Hamilton Township Education Association, an NJEA and NEA affiliate. We are working with the Camino Group to review this 20 minute tape and provide guidance, going forward. Here is a safe link at which you can view the video if necessary – https://youtu.be/CsBVJxWx0E4. PLEASE DO NOT google Veritas or watch the video on their site.

Camino Group reports that PV says on today’s video that a story on Michigan teachers unions will be out next week. Further, they could be releasing stories about teachers unions at any time. We do know they have footage from NY, NYC, NJ, OH, MI, WI, AZ, NM and KY.

Who is this “Camino Group”?  That is the NEA’s public relations firm.  On their website, they proudly boast “we understand how to motivate audiences, protect brands and promote good work.”  They know there is similar footage from eight states, but they will protect “the brand” which would be the teacher unions in this case.

This is what bothers me about Matthew’s email. There is absolutely nothing addressing the absolute inappropriateness and horrendous things Perry did, but rather a “watch your back, we have a public relations disaster in the making.” They do not want to give this Project Veritas any potential publicity so the National Education Association actually created a ghost site for people to watch the video without giving Veritas any hits. Both NEA and DSEA assume this came out because of other things going on such as teacher walkouts and the upcoming Janus decision in the U.S. Supreme Court. It is sad that this assumption is based on fear and not the fact that what Perry did was sick. I’m glad this video came out.

I’ve known Mike Matthews a long time now.  I have no doubt he finds Perry’s actions deplorable and disgusting.  But he is towing the union line in this email and putting the union first.  That is his job and I get that.

I have no doubt I will lose some support and friends over publishing this email and my opinions on it. I believe it is the right thing to do. This blog has always been about what I feel is best for education. And to me, the top priority in education should ALWAYS be the students. People say “students first”. I’ve always meant that!  I respect teachers.  I do not agree with a lot of the education policy that places extra burdens on teachers and puts children in a constant standardized test environment.  I don’t think the teacher unions have done enough to stop that.  Their response to education technology invading the classroom has been sheepish at best.  I agree with DSEA on a lot of legislation.  But their ability to protect their own no matter what sickens me in a way that makes me want to vomit.  They will be the first to throw blame at others but when it is lodged their way they act offended.  They would endorse candidates that are against everything they say they represent in an effort to stop a political party from taking over the Delaware Senate.

I am not a right-wing conservative.  I am not a dyed in the wool liberal either.  I’m just a dad trying to shed light on things. The fact that so many legislators beg for support from the teacher unions sheds a disturbing light on politics in light of this video coming out. I wanted to believe the teacher unions were the last line of defense against corporate education reform but this morning I see things differently.  I do not believe every single teacher out there would ever do something like the scenarios talked about in the below video. I do believe most teachers do want what is best for students.  But why they would tie themselves to an organization that will always be about protecting their brand first baffles me at this point.

The below quotes from the video are shocking, to say the least:

Now if you go to the Hamilton Board of Education and report this, they’re going to call the police, and they’re going to call parents and all that sh*t. We don’t do that. We don’t do that here. I’m here to defend even the worst people.

I got people who are on drugs. And she, five times was fired and I got her job back five times.

But it’s my job.  It’s almost like being a priest.  It’s my job to protect.

So what do you mean by sexual misconduct? Because he touched her hair? It’s not sexual.  Was it right? No. But, you see, you get it down to the lowest level, possible.

And I say yeah, because he was trying to put him back in his seat cause he was getting physical. We reverse it onto the kid.

That last one sent chills up my spine. “We reverse it onto the kid.” This guy is saying that no matter what happened, they would turn the victim into the aggressor. There is nothing worse than this. Nothing. This is a double crime in my book. The initial crime was bad enough but to even suggest this is a form of scum I can’t even fathom.

I am a proud parent of a son with Tourette's Syndrome and several other co-morbidities. I write on this blog to educate other parents so they know a bit more about not only special education, but all the really bad things that are happening with public schools in Delaware and the USA. We are all in this together, and if our children aren't able to advocate for themselves it's up to us parents! We need to stop letting companies run our schools, and demand our children get a proper education. Our Departments of Education in our states have become weak with fear from the bullying US DOE, and we need to take back our schools!

    1. If we did that, there would be no apples. Yes, there are some bad apples out there but for the most part, there are more good apples. I don’t agree with what some have done. If it is a widespread thing, it will come out. If it isn’t, get rid of the rot.

  1. Okay, set up auto search. Computer will keep “dialing” Project Veritas for the next 24 hours. I wonder how many hits that is?
