And the revolving door keeps swinging. Two longtime Delaware Department of Education mainstays are leaving and one was kind of sort of switched to a new role.
The big news first: Michael Watson and Angeline Rivello are leaving. The DOE is now hiring for an Associate Secretary of Educator Supports (Rivello) and an Associate Secretary of Academic Support (Watson). Karen Field-Rogers is now the Deputy Secretary of Performance Support. The DOE is currently looking for a Deputy Secretary of Education (Field-Rogers).
I told you when I announced David Blowman “retired” this wasn’t the end. With Watson’s departure, this means the last of the Race To The Top geniuses are now gone from the Delaware DOE. But any change is only as good as the replacements. These are three very huge roles at the Townsend Building in Dover.
With all my writings about these folks, I have to say I’ve met them several times and they are nice people. Unfortunately, they worked at the Delaware DOE during some crazy times and were responsible for implementing some bad education policies. Doesn’t mean they are “bad” per se, but perhaps a bit misguided!
While I would love to give a screenshot of these openings, the disclaimer on Join Delaware Schools said you can’t do that kind of thing without the written permission of the Delaware DOE. Doesn’t say anything about providing a link to it though! I’m sure a lot of Delaware Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, and Principals are polishing their resumes! Hopefully Secretary of Education Dr. Susan Bunting will go more local this go-around as opposed to hiring more ex-TFA/corporate education reformers.
