One of the big heads at the Delaware Department of Education is retiring. Which one?
David Blowman. The Assistant Deputy Secretary of Education. Who used to be the Deputy Secretary of Education before he switched roles with Karen Field Rogers two years ago. But is it truly a “retirement”? Blowman isn’t that old where he would just retire. Word on the street is the Delaware DOE is looking to make quite a few changes and Blowman is just the first.
As Assistant Deputy, Blowman oversees the Charter School Office and a lot of finance stuff. Prior to coming to the Delaware DOE, he was the Chief Financial Officer for the Brandywine School District. Blowman has been very present at the School District Consolidation Task Force meetings lately where he has been giving presentations on student enrollment over the past 10 years or so.
This would be a MAJOR change at the good old DOE. Blowman was there for all the charter school scandals as well as the approvals of all those new charter schools a few years ago.
I had many conversations about money with him last summer. He was very pleasant and tried to help me as much as he could with my research.
