Poll: Do You Think The Settlement Between The Charter Schools and Christina School District Was Fair?

Last December, the 15 Delaware charter schools and the Christina School District settled in a lawsuit over local funding from Christina to the charters.  The district agreed to pay that portion of their local funding (even though the Delaware DOE colossally screwed up) going forward and both the DOE and Christina had to pay the charters attorney fees.  As well, wording in the settlement around special education funding indicated there could be a change in the air with those payments.  As well, the match tax was brought up in the settlement (but not decided on) and whether charters should get a portion of that.  Almost six months later, I am curious if you agree or not whether this was a fair settlement.

  1. Kevin, I might was well put a target on my back.

I don’t think the settlement was fair, but I do think it was right. Jack Markell had his hands in so many pockets, especially Christina’s, for so many years. He had Lowery who could easily have explained how the money gets hidden on paper. What do you think they teach they teach at the required school board finance training. And I think Jack’s arm twisting meant that Christina got a little help here when he made them suffer heavily there. At my public comment during CSD’s most recent board meeting, I talked about that dirty rug at district headquarters where all the secrets get swept. This settlement reeked of filth and secrets.
I also factor in that Markell could not bear to see the state’s then-2nd-largest school district in the state fail a second time. Not on his watch. He’d plucked Lillian out of CSD for State Sec. of Education. And when he needed it, CSD got his back, whether its board wanted to be the fall guy or not. And, when the secret slipped out and made its way like a blonde bombshell strutting down the streets of the City of Buccini Pollen… (I meant Wilmington) on over to the charter land, a sense of fairness had to be created in the education vacuum while still keeping everybody’s favor fall guy (CSD) standing, or at least only cut off at its knees. Jack couldn’t have failure in education. He was counting on Hilary to take him far far away from Delaware. Why else would attorneys spend a holiday weekend cobbling out a settlement that made as little sense as the accusation?

Well, that’s my conspiracy theory. What’s yours?

    1. The history of it all is rather fascinating. Given that, I’m VERY curious how NCS just happened to find this out a little over a year ago. I would think they would have been busy with choice enrollments at the time…
