Stranger Things

Remember a time when a new television series riveted the nation and it was all people were talking about?  I just finished watching the Netflix series Stranger Things a few days ago.  This is the perfect summer guilty pleasure.   The series, released on July 15th, is building a lot of buzz.  As I am half way through this mesmerizing series, I can see why.  I never heard of the Duffer Brothers before, but they hit a home run with this.  This is the quintessential show about the best of the 1980s even though it was made in the 21st Century.

Here is the premise: a teenager named Will goes missing.  And something dark lurks in the town.  That’s all you need to know.  The soundtrack to this series represents the best of the 80s.  With songs by The Clash, New Order, Joy Division, Echo & the Bunnymen, Corey Hart, Dolly Parton and more, this brings me right back to the time when I was a teenager.  I remember hearing my parents talking about the 1950s and how they were such a great time.  Looking back, this was the 80s for me.

Stranger Things pays homage to a lot of movies from back then, especially E.T. and The Goonies.  It’s about coming of age in the face of great danger.  It’s about rising up to the fact that there are things not of this world if you only believe.  It’s about good and evil.  I don’t want to ruin it for anyone, but watch Stranger Things.  You won’t be disappointed.

I am a proud parent of a son with Tourette's Syndrome and several other co-morbidities. I write on this blog to educate other parents so they know a bit more about not only special education, but all the really bad things that are happening with public schools in Delaware and the USA. We are all in this together, and if our children aren't able to advocate for themselves it's up to us parents! We need to stop letting companies run our schools, and demand our children get a proper education. Our Departments of Education in our states have become weak with fear from the bullying US DOE, and we need to take back our schools!
