At the Christina Educators Association meeting tonight, State Rep. and Chair of the House Education Committee in Delaware Earl Jaques told members that House Bill 50, the parent opt out bill, will not pass. My question to Jaques is this: how would you know this information when it hasn’t even been discussed in the House Education Committee? You are one of forty-one members in the Delaware General Assembly House of Representatives.
Here is my public challenge to you Rep. Jaques: If you are against this bill then you need to publicly explain to every single Delaware parent exactly why you are against it. It sounds to me like you have already made up your mind without any thought put behind it. This is exactly what we have seen from Governor Markell and the Delaware DOE for the past six years. Plowing ahead without any parent or educator input whatsoever is not a strategy, it is a problem. Now that the problems are getting a public face, then you need to defend your side of the argument. You were elected by the people of Delaware to serve the people of Delaware. Not Governor Markell or the Delaware DOE. I look forward to your response.
This is, indeed, disappointing. I am saddened that I wasn’t able to attend the meeting to help set the record straight.

My impression was “Here is a man full of — himself”.
He was not offering a conjecture, but issuing a decree.

With all due respect, the Chair of the House Education Committee is only one vote of 41. If “General Presumptuous” thinks he has some authority other than as one of 41 equals he should voice that assertion and quote the authority he claims. Other than that he should answer to his constituents and all of those parents who demand their parental authority and rights and consider the authority and rights of the other 40 members of the duly elected House of Representatives or consider his options for an orderly withdrawal and reconsideration of his attitude and stance on public education matters. To paraphrase an old saying “you’re not in the Army/Nat.Guard now, you’re not eating Army chow you’ll never get rich by digging a ditch you’re not in the Army now” Climb out of that ditch and face the troops/parents and do some explainin’

When did parents give up (or have taken away) the right to make decisions for their children under the age of 18?

When we let folks like Jack Markell and Mark Murphy tell us they know what is best for our children and we believed it. But we are here to reclaim that right, and if they don’t like it they can kiss my ass.
