So how does a charter school of 800 students manage to accumulate $354,000 in attorney fees? With one check alone being $155,000, this had to be something big. Does this have anything to do with it? From Avi Wolfman Arant’s Newsworks article last week:
The school’s lawyers recommended Family Foundations conceal that audit from the state, which did not become aware of the document until December.
Sorry, this school can pin everything on Moore and Brewington all they want, but there is something deeper at play here….
You have stumbled on why the wealthy want charters… Just like mining a vein of ore, charter Schools generate money. There may be actual wrongdoing requiring these legal fees. OR, the wrongdoing may only be in charging the fees to legally pay back ones return on ones investment…
This is not to say that well meaning adults elsewhere cannot create a well run charter school. But this does say, that if you want to give lots of money to people and insist on no accountability, even those well meaning people will upon seeing everyone else doing it with impunity, will also eventually come around to doing the same.
No one ever says.,.. I’m need to lose money. I think I’ll start a charter school.
It is time we put forth legislation, this year, that bans charter schools forever from this state, either in name, or principle.

Respectfully, I suggest another option…embrace the longitudinal research based work of continuous improvement and sustainability. I can track this back to 1983 as preparation for co-aurthoing an article on same for my
profesional journal.
There are over 2500 high performing schools demonstrate these learnings.
My quest to establish this capability and resource for all schools is gaining interest as the IEP/Autism/Blind Task Forces are buttressed by legislation that mandates Process Improvement.
It is time we put forth Education Leadership, Legislators, and informed citizens that understand this long standing trend. Delaware is surrounded by neighboring states that have begun this, at the invitation of Congress, from 2000 and our work – Milford schools – remains on pause. With the loss of nearly 20% of DE School superintendents, can there be Small Wonder why these learnings do not reach the classroom.
To date, TX, MO, MD, deploy continuous improvement and sustainability state-wide. I’m delighted to brief those legislators that care about quality education.
